Liebe vs. Gesetz… Gott als Vater oder als Richter

Der Herr spricht:

1. Nach dieser hohen Belehrung nahm dankbarst und allerdemütigst wieder der Lamech das Wort und fragte den Herrn:

2. „O Herr, da ich Dich schon einmal zu bitten und zu fragen habe angefangen, so unterfange ich mich, Deiner unendlichen Güte und Geduld volltrauend, Dich noch ferner zu bitten und zu fragen!

3. Darob aber möchte ich Dich fragen, um nun unmittelbar aus Deinem allerheiligsten Munde zu erfahren, wie es Dir im Sonderheitlichen wohlgefallen möchte, dass der Mensch danach in allen seinen irdischen Verhältnissen handeln möchte.

4. Denn siehe, o heiliger Vater, wenn von einem Orte bis zum andern ein Weg vollends gemacht ist, so kann sich auf solch einem Wege wohl niemand verirren, ausser er müsste sich nur absichtlich haben verirren wollen oder hätte eigenliebig etwa gar wollen eine kürzere Strecke ausfindig machen, bei welcher Gelegenheit er sich dann auch verirrt haben könnte und gelangen in ein dichtes Gestrüpp, welches da angefüllt wäre mit Schlangen und Nattern!

5. Also wäre für uns alle ja nichts wünschenswerter als ein für unseren Geist von Dir, o heiliger Vater, genau vorgezeichneter Weg, also ein bestimmtes Gesetz, also und nicht anders zu handeln!

6. Denn haben wir von Dir Selbst eine vorgezeichnete Regel, da wissen wir auch, was Du willst, und was Deiner göttlichen Ordnung gemäss ist, und wir können dann mit grosser Leichtigkeit nur Deinem Wohlgefallen leben.

7. Haben wir aber keine Regel, so muss jeden unserer Schritte eine grosse Ängstlichkeit begleiten, damit wir nicht gar leichtlich einen Fehltritt tun wider Deine allerheiligste Ordnung!

8. Wenn es Dir, o heiliger Vater, angenehm wäre, da möchte ich Dich wohl im Namen der ganzen Tiefe darum bitten, Dir aber auch meine unablässige, allerpünktlichste Treue für allzeit und ewig angeloben!“

9. Und der Herr hob Seine Hand auf, und sagte zum Lamech, wie auch zu allen: „Wahrlich, wahrlich, sage Ich, nun noch euer aller heiliger und liebevollster Vater:

10. Wenn Ich euch durch Gesetze binden werde, dann auch werde Ich euch binden durch das Gericht; denn ohne Gericht ist kein Gesetz möglich, aber somit auch ohne Gesetze kein Gericht!

11. Hättest du, Lamech, bisher Gesetze von Mir, so wäre Ich nun nicht gekommen zu euch als ein Vater und darum ein Helfer euch allen, sondern als ein unerbittlichster Richter wäre Ich zu euch gekommen, um euch zu verdammen für all euer arges Tun!

12. Ihr aber hattet vom Anbeginne keine Gesetze; also wie die Kindlein in der Wiege waret ihr. Ihr habet viel Arges, ja himmelschreiend Arges habet ihr getan; da ihr aber kein bestimmtes Gesetz unmittelbar von Mir hattet, sondern nur einen mittelbaren Rat, so waret ihr auch bis jetzt keines Gerichtes fähig, – und Ich bin nun da, um euch zu helfen!

13. Wie magst du, Lamech, demnach Mich um Gesetze bitten?!

14. Was ist wohl besser, entweder ganz frei zu sein in der Liebe zu Mir und Mich dadurch zu haben zum Vater, oder aber gebunden zu sein durch Gesetze und dadurch Mich zu haben zum steten Richter?!

15. Wahrlich, sage Ich euch allen: Ich will eher die ganze Schöpfung vernichten, als Meine Kinder mit Gesetzen fesseln, ihnen dadurch aufhören ein Vater zu sein, und sie richten zum ewigen Tode!

16. Darum nimm du, Lamech, deine Bitte zurück, und lass sie gänzlich verderben in dir; denn du warst Mir in aller deiner Argheit dennoch lieber, als du Mir wärest in der allergewissenhaftesten Strenge der Beachtung der Gesetze.

17. Denn das Gesetz hebt alle Liebe zwischen dem Gesetzgeber und dem mit dem Gesetze Beladenen auf und stellt statt der Liebe das unerbittliche strengste Recht auf.

18. Wer aber kann von sich sagen: ,Ich vermag das Gesetz völlig zu erfüllen!‘?

19. Siehe, nur Mir allein wäre solches möglich, sonst aber keinem freien Wesen; das Geschöpf müsste nur im Gerichte wandeln gleich den Tieren!

20. Wenn aber solches, wo bleibt dann die freie Lebenstätigkeit des Geistes?!

21. Wehe euch, und wehe jedem Volke, dem Ich Gesetze geben werde; denn da wird das Haus des Vaters mit ehernen Riegeln verschlossen werden!

22. Und wenn Ich nicht Selbst werde kommen, dasselbe zu erfüllen, so geht alle Schöpfung zugrunde!

23. Also gebe Ich euch nun auch kein Gesetz, sondern sage euch als Vater nur, dass ihr Mich liebet über alles und euch untereinander wie jeder sich selbst! Das ist Mein Wille; alles andere aber tuet aus der Weisheit, welche euch in Meiner Liebe wird, so werdet ihr also leben, wie es Mir am wohlgefälligsten ist!

24. Solches also beachtet, und tuet danach, so werdet ihr allzeit Meine Liebe haben, und Mein grosses Vaterhaus soll vor euch nicht verschlossen werden ewig! Amen!“

The Lord says:

1. After this sublime instruction Lamech, full of gratitude and humility, again began to speak and asked the Lord:

2. „O Lord, having once begun to entreat and ask You, and fully trusting in Your infinite goodness and patience, I dare to continue to entreat and ask You.

3. “I want to learn directly from Your most holy mouth Your detailed instructions on what pleases You so that man might act on them in all his earthly affairs.

4. “For look, O holy Father, on a completed road from one place to another no one can lose his way, except if he had wanted to lose it deliberately or had tried to find a short-cut, on which occasion he could have lost his way and ended up in a thick scrub filled with snakes and vipers.

5. “So nothing could be more desirable for us all than a road precisely outlined by You, O holy Father, namely, a definite law to act thusly and not otherwise.

6. “For, once we have a rule prescribed by You personally, we then know what You want and what is in keeping with Your divine order and it will be very easy to live in a way that is pleasing to You.

7. “Without a rule our every step must be accompanied by a great fear lest we easily commit an offence against Your most holy order.

8. “If it might please You, O holy Father, I would ask You for it in the name of the whole lowland, and at the same time assuring You of my incessant, most punctual loyalty always and forever!”

9. And the Lord lifted up His hand and said to Lamech and all the others: “Verily, verily, say I, still the holy and most loving Father to you all:

10. “Once I bind you through laws, I also bind you through judgment; for without judgment no law is possible, nor is any judgment possible without laws!

11. “If you, Lamech, had had laws from Me, I would not have come to you as a Father and thus a helper to you all, but as a most inexorable judge to condemn you for all your evil deeds!

12. “However, from the beginning you had no laws; thus you were like infants in the cradle. You have done much evil, indeed you have committed atrocious deeds; but, having no definite law directly from Me, but only an indirect advice, you were so far not liable to any judgment, – and now I am here to help you.

13. “How can you then ask Me for laws, Lamech?

14. “What is better, to be quite free in the love for Me, thus having Me as a Father, or to be bound by laws, thereby having Me as a permanent judge?

15. Verily, say I to you all: I will rather destroy the whole of creation than fetter My children with laws, thereby ceasing to be their Father and judging them to eternal death!

16. “Therefore you, Lamech, take back your request and let it completely wither within you; for in all your erstwhile wickedness I liked you better than I would if you were to consider the laws with the most painstaking severity.

17. “For the law rescinds all love between the lawgiver and the one encumbered with the law, and, instead of love, establishes the most severe, inexorable judgment.

18. “Who can say of himself: ‘I can completely fulfill the law!’?

19. “Look, I alone could do this, but no other free being; the created being would have to walk in judgment like the animals.

20. “If so, where is the free life-activity of the spirit?

21. Woe betide you and woe betide every nation to which I shall give laws; for then the house of the Father will be locked with iron bolts!

22. “And unless I come personally to fulfill the same, the whole of creation will perish!

23. “Therefore, I now give you no law, but only tell you as a Father to love Me above all and each other as you love yourselves. This is My will; all else do out of the wisdom which comes to you through My love, and you will live as it is most pleasing to Me.

24. “Observe all this and do accordingly and you will have My love at all times and the great house of your Father shall not ever be closed to you! Amen.”
